“Thank you for this filter. We really need it, especially the kids. I hope they can have less typhoid fever and diarrhea now. Thank you to the churches and people who raised money for our filter. I will pray for health, a good heart, and more wisdom for you to keep on giving.”
Family Information: Saintail and his family of 7 live in a remote wooden shack tucked away an hours hike up into the lush Pomme Mountains. He (47) and his wife Dorozier (47) live with their children Emmanuel (16), Eliziana (13), Zachary (9), Mary Magdala (6), and Apalus (4). The family attends Pastor Linell’s Pomme Mountain Church.
Job Information: the Rodriguiz family lives off the land, making about $300 a month at the market selling bananas, corn, yams, peanuts, and beans. This hike to the marketplace takes at least an hour each way every day, depending on the rain levels.
Medical History: The Rodriguiz children get sick about 3 times a month each; their ailments include typhoid fever, diarrhea, vaginal infections, and terrible stomach pain. Even at $10 a person, the hike to the nearest medical clinic is often unbearable for the children when sick. If someone becomes dangerously ill, the family travels up to 5 hours to go to another hospital, paying $120 for a consultation and $200 for a shot.
